Frequently
Asked Questions |
- WHAT
IS THE CLUB’S INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY?
Our
pool will be closed for a minimum of 30 minutes
after lightning is sighted by a lifeguard on duty.
Lifeguards also have discretion to close the pool
upon hearing thunder, heavy rain such that the pool
bottom is no longer visible, and cooler than tolerable
conditions. The Manager on Duty will decide when
conditions are safe enough to re-open the pool to
patrons. Management will try to post an announcement
concerning closures should the pool be closed for
an extended period due to weather.
- WHAT
ARE THE DUTIES OF THE LIFEGUARDS?
The Northbrook lifeguards all have been certified
in CPR, First Aid and Lifeguarding courses. They
also are familiar with the pool rules and will act
to ensure member safety. In addition, our lifeguards
are responsible for the cleanliness of the facility,
member check-in and the snack bar operations. We
always attempt to hire exemplary people for our
staff. The lifeguards are available to help make
your visits to Northbrook pleasant and enjoyable.
- WHAT
IF I LEAVE SOMETHING AT THE POOL?
Lost and found articles are kept for at least one
week. There are tubs into which lifeguards will
place items found at the end of the evening. If
you know you left something at the pool, please
feel free to check these tubs. Every two weeks the
tubs are emptied and articles unclaimed will be
sent to Goodwill.
- HOW
CAN I SHOW OFF THE POOL TO POTENTIAL NEW MEMBERS?
Each month we plan to offer a FREE guest day during
which our membership will be able to bring in potential
new members to enjoy a day at our club. Please let
us know if we can provide information to your guests
about the club.
- CAN
THE CLUB PROVIDE MORE SHADE FOR THE MEMBERS?
Northbrook is lucky to be surrounded by a wooded
area whose trees supply a lot of afternoon shade
in various locations around the pool. In addition,
there is the bathhouse structure and two tents that
will be available for added shade for those who
wish to stay out of the sun.
- WHAT
IS THE POLICY FOR RENTAL OF THE CLUBHOUSE AND POOL?
The clubhouse is rented to several groups on year-round
contracts including a group that rents the clubhouse
on alternate Friday and Saturday nights in the summer.
These regular rentals guarantee the financial stability
of the club in the off-season months. The clubhouse
can be rented through our rental agent, Dee Kazmierczak,
who is a volunteer member of the club and cleans
the facility after each rental. Members can rent
the clubhouse and pool at reduced rates. Call Dee
if you have an interest in doing so. Likewise, renting
the pool is possible for a rental fee and lifeguards
to cover every 25 attendees. Pool parties for 10
or more people must be scheduled with Dee.
- WHAT
KIND OF SWIMWEAR IS ACCEPTABLE AT THE POOL?
Toddlers should always wear a swim diaper surrounded
by plastic swimwear to protect other bathing young
people. We highly recommend non-potty trained youngsters
be kept from the large pool. One accident involving
fecal matter can result in closing the pool for
a 24-hour period while the pool is treated with
a high chlorine dosage. Parents should use the hourly
adult swim breaks to request that their children
visit the restroom for a break. Patrons with hair
longer than shoulder length should use a swim cap
when swimming. As Northbrook is a family-friendly
facility, swimwear worn to the pool should show
appropriate good taste.
- WHAT
ARE THE HOURS OF THE BABY POOL AND WHO WATCHES THOSE
CHILDREN?
The wading “baby” pool is available
for use starting as soon as lifeguards arrive at
the facility and the big pool is open for use. Parents
are fully responsible for watching their own children
when they are using the wading pool. Children in
the wading pool should never be unattended and should
be no older than 7. Lifeguards do not patrol the
wading pool. Pool toys are available on-site for
use in the wading pool. Please do not allow toddlers
to take the lid off of the skimmer or put toys into
that area. Adults are cautioned to keep youngsters
away from the main drain area of the pool. The wading
pool closes at the regular closing time. Wednesdays
during clean-up day, neither pool is open until
after 12noon.
- WHAT
ITEMS CAN BE BROUGHT TO THE POOL FOR COOKOUTS?
Northbrook provides several grills with propane
for use for member cookouts. Members are welcome
to use the grill area and picnic tables as they
are available. Members may bring items they need
for the cookout with them. Our snack bar is available
to supply items for sale during your cookouts as
well.
- WHEN
IS THE BEST TIME TO SWIM LAPS?
Members who wish to lap swim are encouraged to come
to the pool between 11:30-1:30pm and 6:00-8:00pm.
These hours tend to be the least crowded and lap
lanes will be available for lap swimmer’s
use. Northbrook’s own swim team has the use
of up to four lanes for its practices which are
between 9-11am and 3-6pm. It is best to avoid these
hours if you wish to swim recreationally or lap
swim.
- WHEN
CAN THE TENNIS COURTS BE USED?
The Northbrook tennis courts are available during
all times when the tennis team is not utilizing
the courts. Tennis lessons are available as well
to members from the Northbrook tennis coaches. Adults
have priority over youths on weekends. The Northbrook
tennis courts are lit for nighttime play. Courts
are accessible from the side gate after pool hours
have ended. Please turn off the lights when finished.
- HOW
CAN I VOLUNTEER TO SUPPORT THE SPORTS TEAM PARTICIPANTS?
Northbrook has created an All-Sports Committee of
coaches and volunteer members to help guide the
needs of our three sports team—swim team,
diving team and tennis team. If you are interested
in joining this committee or one of the several
sub-committees, please contact a coach or the Club
President.
- WHAT
IS THE CLUB POLICY ON SMOKING AND ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION?
Smoking is not permitted on the pool grounds. Those
who wish to smoke are requested to do so outside
the gates of the facility. Alcohol consumption is
never allowed at sports competitions (TSA/TDA Rule)
and its use is also in violation of State Law as
the club does not have an adult beverage license
for use on an extended basis.
- WHY
IS THERE AN ADDITIONAL FEE FOR LATE NITE SWIMS?
Late night swims are held on special Fridays from
8-11pm. When these events are held an admission
fee of $3 per person is charged in order to re-coup
certain expenses and to pay lifeguards an after-hours
fee. These events proved very popular with the membership
last year and guests are welcome. There are six
late night swims planned in 2006. Come be a part
of the fun.
